What's the most beautiful little thing you've seen this week?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 08, 2009:
Back in late December and early January, my little corner of Oregon had some incredibly un-Oregon-y weather. We had snow and ice and downed trees all over the place. The crack of branches breaking at night echoed through our neighborhood. Many trees here have died from the cold or the weight of the ice.
This story is about one tree in particular. This little guy was oh, maybe six feet tall. During the weird winter weather, it had been bent over by the weight of the ice until the topmost foot of it was laying on the ground. As the year progressed and spring began to sprung, I watched that little cherry tree for signs of life. All of the trees around it burst into bloom last week, but that poor lil' guy didn't. I waited, and hoped, and waited, and checked it, and waited, until today. On a tiny little branch at the tiny little top of the tiny little tree was a teensy, tiny little bud. I whooped and hollered and ran in circles around the tree yelling "Way to go, little guy! Blossom like you've never blossomed before!!"
It was about that time the owner of the yard that tree was planted in came out to see what the crazy lady was yelling about. In short, I made a new friend today...lol.

“In the woods there grew a tree
A fine, fine tree was he
On that tree there was a limb
And on that limb there was a branch
On that branch there was a nest
And in that nest there was an egg
In that egg there was a bird
And from that bird a feather came
Of that feather was a bed
On that bed there was a girl
And on that girl there was a man
From that man there was a seed
And from that seed there was a boy
From that boy there was a man
And for that man there was a grave
From that grave there grew a tree…”
~The Maypole Song, from the Wicker Man.
I just love that, may it grow strong and fruitful and live many years.
